Benandanti- A collection of "caul-born" werefolk, witches/shamans, and animal warriors born with a call to fight the forces of entropy in Night Battles held in Vanaheim. At least once a year in any given region, around harvest time usually, a great Night Battle takes place against demons, and evil mortals. In days past, many cultures sacrificed criminals, as well as voluntary tributes, to the gods. In the near future, it is discovered that these sacrificed individuals would stand beside the Benandanti in the Night Battles for a certain amount of time after their death.
In the Future Era, Oracles speak of a coming battle for which the Night Battles are but a warning, and or which they are but an echo. Meanwhile, the Night Battles come more frequently, more and more children are born with the Caul, and nameless, unimaginable creatures escape their eons old prisons, bringing death and chaos across the cosmos.
Knights of the Silver Sword- A semi-religious order of assassin knights dedicated to hunting powerful beings of evil. It is believed that they have successfully rid the world of vampires, by the Modern Era.
Druids- The ancient Druids are no more, but their teachings survived in the long memories of Alfar and Fey, and in the Modern Era, a new Druid order emerged from The Otherworld. Primarily lorekeepers, teachers, scientists and Thaumatologists, some few do venture out into the world, usually alongside Rangers and Hunters.
Order of The Red Dragon- Founded in ancient times, at least a century before Rome invaded the British Isles. A band of warriors witnessed their King destroyed in fire at the hands of a great white dragon, and followed it, though they had no hope of overcoming its might. When they came upon it again, deep in an ancient forest in what is now Wales, the beast was in the midst of a great battle with a red dragon, supported by a cadre of old men casting fire and death at the red dragon. They had heard of the red, and knew it to be a protector of innocent mortals, and of the land, so they raised arms and charged the sorcerers.
Many were lost, but the Warriors prevailed, and without the interference of the sorcerers, the red dragon defeated the white. Afterwards, the dragon healed their injuries, and they swore fealty to her. But she spoke sternly to them, and commanded that their loyalty be the same as hers. To the land and its people, to protect the innocent and the weak, to guide the strong to do what's right, and to stand ready against the darkness.
And for two thousand years, they have done so. The dragon still leads them, and forges their blades which drain and quiet magic, and give wounds that heal more quickly and never grow infected, but are deadly to those whose bodies are infused with the magic of necromancy, or blood magic, or human sacrifice. They work without magic, instead training their bodies and minds to resist magical manipulTion and hexcraft.
