Gonna really quick post an idea I posited to Alison today, get it down so I don't lose it.
First, this assumes that we reduce starting Character Points to 30, from 50, and possibly take the disadvantage limit down from 25 to 20 points worth. Thus, your total max possible Character Points spent as a starting character would be 50, assuming max disadvantages. The current total is a whopping 75.
That said, the idea is that each Archetype, in addition to having a Primary Skill with which you get to roll Action Dice twice, taking the better result*(see second thread post for my thinking on making that easier) and a list of discounted traits, you also get a medium sized ability for free, that costs 10 or 15 points for anyone else. This would be something that really helps define the archetype. The sort of thing that, in a true class based system like DnD, you would get in the first couple levels, like the Rogue's Sneak Attack, and the Ranger's Favored Enemy. Each trait would only be on one Archetypal Trait list, but any character could buy it at full price.
SO, thoughts? Concerns? Does this represent more of a roadblock to character customization than it does to make character creation simpler?
